The seller is identified as Indo Global Infotech City LLP, reported Moneycontrol.

This marks Microsoft's second significant land purchase in Pune, following its acquisition of a 25-acre plot in the satellite city of Pimpri-Chinchwad from Finolex Industries in 2022 for Rs 328 crore, where it is currently developing a data center, media reports said.

Moneycontrol has reached out to Microsoft for details on its plans for the newly acquired land in Hinjawadi, and the information will be updated once the company responds.

Hinjawadi is known for the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, a key hub for IT services and global capability centers, housing facilities of various technology and manufacturing companies.

Earlier this year, Microsoft also purchased a 48-acre land parcel in Hyderabad for Rs 267 crore to expand its data center footprint in India, the report said.

As a "hyperscaler" in the data industry, Microsoft, along with Google and Amazon Web Services, is expected to play a crucial role in the localization of data through Indian-based data centers.

In addition to its operational and planned data centers, Microsoft employs around 23,000 people across its development centers in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Noida.
