The clarification comes after reports sparked public concern over what was being described as a possible “silent demonetisation.”
In a post on Facebook, the bank said: “A false message is being circulated claiming that pre-2005 ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, and ₹100 notes will not be accepted at Bank of Maharashtra branches after 30th June, 2026.”
It further clarified, “Bank of Maharashtra clarifies that this information is incorrect. Customers are requested not to believe or share such messages and to rely only on official sources for authentic information.”
The bank’s post also carried a “fake message alert,” urging customers to remain cautious about misinformation circulating on social media.
