Uber Green to launch in India; 25,000 EVs to be introduced over next 3 yrs
Uber, a multinational ride-sharing app, is set to introduce Uber Green in India starting in June as part of its efforts toward sustainability.
The service will initially be available in three cities, namely New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
With Uber Green, users will have the option to book rides in all-electric vehicles that produce zero tailpipe emissions.
This initiative extends Uber Green's existing presence in more than 100 cities across 15 countries worldwide.
Uber has announced a partnership with Zypp Electric to bring 10,000 electric two-wheelers to Delhi by 2024.
The company has collaborated with Lithium Urban Technologies, Everest Fleet Pvt Ltd, and Moove to introduce 25,000 electric cars across the top seven cities in India over the next three years, catering to high demand.
In another development, Uber and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to facilitate the purchase of electric and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles.
Through this partnership, affordable loans totalling approximately Rs 1,000 crore will be provided to support the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles.
In the area of charging infrastructure, Uber has established two notable partnerships.
It has introduced its global mobility agreement with bp pulse to India through collaboration with Jio-bp.
This partnership will grant Uber drivers access to the charging networks provided by bp pulse, while also fostering the development of new charging infrastructure.
Furthermore, Uber has signed an agreement with GMR Green Energy to create customized charging facilities, further enhancing the charging infrastructure ecosystem.
These partnerships aim to support the widespread adoption of electric vehicles and facilitate convenient charging options for Uber drivers in India.
