The company will introduce the new packaging innovation through its popular Cow Milk variant in the Delhi NCR market, along with a refreshed pack design, starting June 5, 2026, on the occasion of World Environment Day.
According to the company, the new milk pouch uses a first-of-its-kind degradable packaging technology that enables the material to transform into bioavailable wax, which is then broken down by microbes in the soil into natural elements.
Unveiling the innovation, Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board and Mother Dairy, said India’s dairy sector reflects scale, inclusivity, and responsibility, with sustainability deeply embedded across the value chain. He noted that the initiative represents a major milestone, with the new packaging designed to naturally degrade in soil within a few years rather than taking centuries, without any impact on consumer milk prices.
He added that the launch reinforces the sector’s ability to set new benchmarks while building a future-ready and sustainable ecosystem.
Speaking about the initiative, Jayatheertha Chary, Managing Director of Mother Dairy, said the company has remained at the forefront of innovation for over five decades. He highlighted that the new pouch is the result of over four years of research and is designed to eliminate plastic traces from the environment.
He further explained that while the packaging remains recyclable, its key advantage lies in its ability to degrade into natural elements, helping address the issue of plastic pollution and contributing to a cleaner ecosystem.
