Businessman, liquor supplier arrested after birthday party raid in Gujarat’s Surat
Two people, including a prominent businessman, have been arrested after liquor cans were found in a vehicle outside a Surat hotel where a birthday party was being held in violation of Gujarat’s prohibition laws.

NDTV, quoting sources, said the celebration took place at KS Avtaar Hotel in Althan on Thursday to mark the birthday of businessman Sameer Shah.
During the party, Shah’s 19-year-old son was allegedly seen consuming alcohol with friends inside a vehicle parked near the hotel.
Police reached the spot after receiving a tip-off. When officers tried to record a video of the group drinking, the teenager allegedly misbehaved and assaulted police personnel.
A viral video shows him shoving and arguing with officers before being restrained.

When the police managed to bring the teen under control, Sameer Shah arrived and allegedly threatened officers, claiming to have “connections at the top,” NDTV reported.
Two women at the scene also reportedly pleaded with police to release the youth, saying, “he is a child.”
Police recovered nine liquor cans worth ₹1,350, along with seven mobile phones and cash from the vehicle, which carried an “L” sticker indicating a learner’s licence. The car and items have been seized.
Speaking to NDTV, Zone 4 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nidhi Thakur said, “Two cases have been filed- one related to the recovery of liquor and the other concerning the assault on police personnel. The man who supplied the alcohol has been arrested. Sameer Shah was also arrested after the supplier stated he acted at the businessman’s behest.”
She added that Sameer’s son failed the breath analyser test, and his blood and urine samples have been sent for medical examination.
“He faces a case for assaulting the police. We are assessing whether a notice or further arrest is warranted,” DCP Thakur said.
