Chhattisgarh IT student suspended for using AI to morph women’s photos, over 1,000 images found
A third-year engineering student at a leading IT institute in Chhattisgarh has been suspended after over 30 women students accused him of using artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create obscene, morphed versions of their photographs.

College authorities said the student, who is from Bilaspur and enrolled in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Naya Raipur, was found in possession of over 1,000 photos and videos of women students.
The matter came to light on Monday after 36 women students filed written complaints with the institute.
“On October 6, some women students complained about the incident. Following this, an investigation committee was formed, and staff members immediately searched the accused student’s room. His laptop, mobile phone, and pen drive were confiscated,” the institute’s Registrar, Professor Srinivas, told NDTV.
“A three-member staff committee, all women, has been set up to probe the matter. Parents of the complainants are also being interviewed. Further action is being taken to ensure that no personal information of any student is leaked,” he added.
Authorities said that the obscene content appeared to have been generated using AI image-editing tools.
The institute is working with cyber experts to verify the authenticity of the material and determine whether any of the content was shared beyond the campus.
Ashish Rajput, in charge of the Rakhi Police Station, confirmed that the police are in touch with the institute’s management.
“We have spoken to the college administration and are examining the facts. A formal investigation will begin once a written complaint is received,” Rajput said.
Meanwhile, the women students have demanded strict action against the accused, both disciplinary and legal. College officials have assured the students and their families that the institute will take all necessary measures to protect their privacy and ensure accountability.
