Sandeep Lamba, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East District), was caught in multiple videos allegedly slapping a woman during the police crackdown on protesters on the streets of Delhi.

Police complaint filed

Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saket Gokhale has filed a police complaint against Lamba at the Parliament Street Police Station, seeking registration of an FIR.

Announcing the move on X, Gokhale wrote: "I have filed a complaint with the SHO, Parliament Street Police Station, for registration of an FIR against Additional DCP Sandeep Lamba who assaulted a woman protestor at Jantar Mantar on 20 July 2026.

"Yesterday, in the Delhi High Court, the Government's answer to the petitions on police brutality was that nobody had approached the police for an FIR. So today I filed a police complaint."

Assault video sparks outrage

The alleged assault, captured on camera during the police action against CJP protesters, triggered widespread outrage online, with opposition leaders and activists demanding accountability for the officer's conduct.

Lamba's removal from the Jantar Mantar deployment comes amid growing scrutiny of the police response to the July 20 Parliament March and the continuing protests over the NEET paper leak.

Parliament March Triggers Violence

Dramatic scenes unfolded during the Parliament march on the streets of Delhi on Monday as police lathi-charged thousands of protesters, leaving several demonstrators injured.

Police also fired tear gas shells, barricaded roads and detained protesters as a massive confrontation erupted in one of the most significant anti-government protests in recent years.

According to reports, several police personnel were also injured during the clashes, which disrupted normal life across the city.

Metro services were affected, parts of central Delhi came to a standstill, and protesters clashed with police while demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and broader education-related issues.

Why Are They Protesting?

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), an online satirical campaign, began its sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar nearly a month ago demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation for accountability over the NEET paper-leak.

The movement gained momentum after activist Sonam Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike on June 28 in support of the protesters.
