DNA match, obscene videos, CCTV footage nail accused in South Calcutta Law College gangrape; police file 658-page chargesheet
Kolkata: The Kolkata Police has filed a 658-page chargesheet in the South Calcutta Law College gangrape case, naming four arrested individuals, including suspended Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) leader and prime accused Monojit Mishra, media reports said.

The chargesheet, prepared by the Detective Department in coordination with Kasba Police Station, is based on extensive technical, scientific, and circumstantial evidence, reported India Today.
Mishra, a 31-year-old criminal lawyer, former student, and contractual non-teaching staff at the college, was arrested on June 25 along with two current students, Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, following allegations by a first-year law student that she was gangraped inside the college premises.
A fourth accused, Pinaki Banerjee, the college security guard, was arrested later during the investigation. All four remain in judicial custody.
According to police sources, the chargesheet highlights three crucial pieces of forensic and digital evidence.
Forensic examination confirmed that Mishra’s DNA matched samples collected from the survivor’s clothing. Investigators also retrieved mobile phone footage from the accused showing the sexual assault, directly establishing their involvement.
In addition, CCTV cameras installed around the law college captured the movements of both the accused and the victim, including visuals of the young woman being led into the guard’s room against her will.
Police said this evidence strongly supports the survivor’s complaint, which led to the FIR at Kasba Police Station.
Mishra, Mukherjee, and Ahmed were arrested within six hours of the FIR, while Banerjee was held later following a Special Investigation Team’s findings.
The chargesheet notes Banerjee locked the guard’s room instead of alerting police or locals, making him complicit.
The chargesheet also revealed obscene videos of the victim were recovered from the accused’s phones. These were filmed secretly through an exhaust fan hole in the wall, NDTV reported.
The 24-year-old survivor alleged that Mishra raped her after she rejected his marriage proposal.
NDTV further reported that Mishra had been arrested eight times earlier, but was bailed out by friends.
Following the incident, Mishra, who had been working as a temporary staffer since 2024, was dismissed.
Ahmed and Mukherjee were also expelled from the institute.
