EC should be dismissed: Uddhav Thackeray
Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday demanded that the Election Commission be dismissed and the election commissioner be appointed through elections.
Thackeray also asked everyone to unite against the Commission.
Addressing a press conference, Thackeray doubted whether elections would be held in the country after 2024.
"Everything has been stolen from me. The name and symbol of our party have been stolen but the name 'Thackeray' cannot be stolen. We have moved the Supreme Court against the decision given by the Election Commission, the hearing will start from tomorrow," he said, alleging that the BJP was orchestrating the moves against his party.
Thackeray warned that Shiv Sena was not born to "lick the palms" of BJP.
He said the Election Commission's decision to recognise Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's group as the real Shiv Sena and allot the party's traditional symbol bow and arrow to it was "wrong".
"Basically, Election Commissioners are not elected but appointed A petition in this regard is pending in the Supreme Court. Not only this, when many cases against Shiv Sena are pending in the court, what was the need for the Election Commission to do all this in such a hurry?" he wondered.
The Election Commission has created all this mess only to make the proceedings going on in the court more complicated.
Thackeray also said the decision has been given "in haste".
