From festive wishes to crisis talk: Modi discusses Gulf turmoil with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian
Indian PM Narendra Modi on Saturday held a telephone conversation with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, conveying Eid greetings, and discussed the current situation in West Asia.
During the interaction, he flagged concern over the recent attacks targeting key infrastructure in the region.
Sharing details about the telephone discussion with the Iranian leader amid the ongoing Middle East tension, Modi wrote on X: "Spoke with President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and conveyed Eid and Nowruz greetings. We expressed hope that this festive season brings peace, stability and prosperity to West Asia."

Modi said he told the President that it is important to safeguard freedom of navigation.
"Reiterated the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring that shipping lanes remain open and secure," he said.
He appreciated Iran’s continued support for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Iran.
The Prime Minister raised his concern over the shipping lanes since more than 20 Indian vessels reportedly remain stranded in the Persian Gulf region, with traffic through the Strait of Hormuz largely disrupted.
The Middle East is witnessing escalation in tension since February 28 when the US-Israel attacked Tehran.
