India assures stable energy supplies with 60-day fuel stock despite West Asia crisis

Officials stated that the energy situation remains stable and fully under control despite ongoing tensions in West Asia.

No supply gap, imports secured

In a PIB release dated March 26, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said crude oil supplies have already been secured for the next 60 days.

Oil Marketing Companies have arranged imports in advance, ensuring uninterrupted availability across the country.

Despite concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, India continues to source crude oil from more than 40 global suppliers.

Officials noted that increased supply from other regions has compensated for any disruptions.

Refineries across the country are currently operating at over 100 percent capacity, maintaining a steady fuel flow.

Strong reserves back supply stability

India’s total reserve capacity stands at 74 days, while the current stock is estimated at around 60 days.

This includes crude oil, refined petroleum products and strategic reserves stored in underground facilities.

Authorities highlighted that even as the West Asia crisis enters its 27th day, the country maintains stable fuel availability.

Additional procurement plans are already in place to ensure continued supply in the coming months.

Petrol, diesel, LPG supplies remain unaffected

Officials clarified that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG anywhere in the country.

Fuel stations are functioning normally, and no rationing measures have been introduced.

As one of the world’s largest refining hubs and a major exporter of petroleum products, India has a robust domestic supply network.

Authorities attributed isolated rushes at fuel stations to panic triggered by misleading social media content rather than actual supply constraints.

LPG supply strengthened, imports underway

Domestic LPG production has increased significantly and now meets more than half of the country’s daily demand. This has reduced reliance on imports.

At the same time, large LPG shipments from countries including the United States, Russia and Australia are already en route.

Oil companies continue to ensure smooth cylinder deliveries nationwide, and demand has stabilised following a brief surge.

PNG expansion part of long-term strategy

The government clarified that the expansion of Piped Natural Gas is not linked to any immediate shortage.

Instead, it forms part of a broader strategy to promote cleaner and more affordable energy solutions.

PNG connections have expanded rapidly, with authorities encouraging households to adopt this alternative energy source.

Govt warns against misinformation

The ministry has cautioned against the spread of false information online, stating that misleading posts and videos are creating unnecessary panic.

Citizens have been advised to rely only on official updates.

Authorities also warned that strict action could be taken against those spreading rumours that may undermine public confidence.
