Indian official meets Malaysian, South Korean representative on sideline of EAS

Secretary (East) P Kumaran met Amran Mohammed Zin, Secretary General, MoFA, Malaysia, on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit (EAS) and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) SOM in Penang where they discussed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.


Sharing details of the meeting, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: "Held discussions to fully realize the - Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established during the visit of PM YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia, to India in Aug 2024."

Secretary (East) P. Kumaran met Ms. Hajah Johariah Binti Abdul Wahab, Permanent Secretary, MoFA of Brunei Darussalam, on the margins of EAS SOM in Penang, Malaysia.

Jaiswal further said: "Congratulated Secretary General on successful adoption of ‘ASEAN Community Vision 2045’ under ’s chairmanship of ASEAN. Also discussed ways to widen ’s engagement with ASEAN in the context EAS and ASEAN-India Summit framework to strengthen the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and exchanged views on other regional and multilateral issues."

Kumaran also met  Chung Byung-won, Deputy Minister of Political Affairs, MoFA of Republic of Korea, when they discussed ways to stregthen  Special Strategic Partnership and impart renewed momentum to the bilateral agenda.

What is  East Asia Summit (EAS)?

As per the official website, the East Asia Summit (EAS) process was initiated in 2005 with the convening of the 1st East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

At its inception, the East Asia Summit comprised 16 participating countries, namely ASEAN Member States, Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, and the Republic of Korea. The United States and Russian Federation joined at the 6th East Asia Summit in Bali, Indonesia on 19 November 2011.
