Jaishankar to visit Russia today, aims to strengthen Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Russia from August 19 to August 21, to further strengthen the longstanding and time-tested India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
He will be visiting the nation at the invitation of the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov.
Jaishankar will co-chair the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) scheduled for 20 August 2025.
"EAM will address the India-Russia Business Forum meeting in Moscow," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
"During the visit, EAM will also meet Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. Sergey Lavrov and review the bilateral agenda and share perspective on regional and global issues," the statement said.
Jaishankar's visit assumes significance since US President Donald Trump recently imposed 25 per cent tariffs on select Indian goods and a penalty of another 25 per cent for buying Russian oil.
Meanwhile, Trump is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington on Monday.
