Law student allegedly gang-raped in Kolkata college, three arrested

Kolkata/IBNS: Three people have been arrested in connection with the gangrape of a law student at a college in Kolkata's Kasba area, media reports said.
The incident allegedly took place on the campus of the law collegue under Kasba police station on June 25 evening.
Among the arrested, two are current students in the college and the other is a former student of the institution.
"We have arrested all the accused. The main accused is the ex-student, and the two others were there. Investigation is on whether the other two were also involved," a cop said as quoted by The Telegraph.
"The main accused had called the victim to the campus on Wednesday evening. On her arrival, the main accused and his accomplices took her to a room where she was raped," the police officer added as reported by the daily.
The main accused, who was a regular visitor to the campus, had passed out from the college in 2022.

According to a TV9 Bangla report quoting sources, the victim told the police that the accused lured her after the college hours by offering her the post of GS (General Secretary) of the student council.
The opposition BJP alleged that one of the accused is a former student and ruling Trinamool Congress affiliated union member.
"A female student of a prestigious law college in South Kolkata was brutally gang-raped—not in some dark alley, but right outside the union room of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP)," he posted on X, alleging that the main accused is a former student and TMCP member.

The alleged incident happened in less than a year after a junior doctor was brtually raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The RG Kar rape-murder had triggered nationwide protests bringing the state administration under scanner.
Though the victim's family and other junior doctors alleged foul play by the administration, civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy, who was swiftly arrested by the Kolkata Police, was the only person to be convicted by the court.
Sanjoy was sentenced to life imprisonment.
