The incident reportedly occurred in Kalaichar area bordering Bangladesh on Saturday.
The elephant, as per Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rupankar Marak, was in agony after inadvertently consuming poison, possibly from the nearby forest, reports The Shillong Times.
The elephant, which was on all fours from pain, was discovered by the 24 Battalion BSF personnel, following which they intimated the Wildlife department.
“Immediately after we were informed of the situation, one of our rangers along with a team, including a doctor, were rushed to the spot. After an antidote was administered and saline was given, things got better. The elephant was able to get back on its feet by the evening and by night, it was walking,” the DFO was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
