Middle East crisis: India to evacuate citizens of Sri Lanka, Nepal from Iran
The Indian Embassy in Iran has announced it will try to evacuate nationals from Sri Lanka and Nepal from conflict-hit Iran.

The Embassy said the action will be performed after the governments of the two neighbouring nations requested for evacuation of their nationals.
In an X post, the Indian Embassy in Iran said: "On request of the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy’s evacuation efforts in Iran will also cover Citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka."
Sharing further details, the Embassy said: " The citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka may urgently reach out to the Embassy, either on the Telegram channel or over the emergency contact numbers. +989010144557; +989128109115; +989128109109."
Meanwhile, the Indian government evacuated 311 people, who were stranded in Iran, to India on Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
The evacuation was done as part of Operation Sindhu.
Sharing details about the latest evacuation from the conflict-torn nation, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X, "311 Indian nationals arrived in New Delhi on a special flight from Mashhad at 1630 hrs on 22nd June."
Jaiswal said 1428 Indian nationals have now been evacuated from Iran.
In view of the deteriorating situation as a result of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, the Government of India has been taking various steps over the last several days for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Iran.
As a first step, the Indian Embassy has evacuated 110 Indian students from northern Iran, assisting them in safely crossing over into Armenia on 17th June 2025.
The students have travelled by road to the Armenian capital, Yerevan, under the supervision of our Missions in Iran and Armenia.
These students departed Yerevan on a special flight at 1455 hrs on June 18 and will arrive in New Delhi in the early hours of June 19 as part of the initial stages of Operation Sindhu.
"The Government of India is grateful to the Governments of Iran and Armenia for the smooth facilitation of the evacuation process," read a statement issued by the Indian government..
