Hyderabad/Guwahati/IBNS: The political climate in Assam has intensified ahead of the Assembly elections, with state police searching for Congress leader Pawan Khera following his allegations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, media reports said.
Khera, who heads the Congress’ media and publicity department, alleged that Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, holds passports of three countries, India, the UAE and Egypt.
He also accused her of owning undisclosed luxury properties in Dubai and having links to a company in Wyoming, United States.

A team of Assam Police reached Khera’s residence in Nizamuddin East in New Delhi.
According to reports, Khera was in Hyderabad when the police arrived. Officers reportedly conducted a search for nearly two hours before leaving the premises with electronic devices and documents.
Barricades have been placed outside Khera’s residence in Hyderabad, with local police under the Congress government stating they would cooperate with Assam Police upon receiving a formal notice.
Khera may approach the court seeking relief from arrest, reports added.
