Speaking to ANI, shop owner Sushant Jain said Rahul Gandhi prepared imarti and besan laddus during his visit and recalled that the late Rajiv Gandhi had also been fond of imarti.

“He (Rahul Gandhi) wanted to buy sweets for his home, friends, and relatives. I said, ‘Sir, you are most welcome — this is your own shop.’ When he came, he said he would make them himself and taste them too,” Jain said.

“His father, the late Rajiv ji, really liked imarti, so I told him to try that. He also likes besan laddus, so he made those as well,” he added.

The sweet shop owner described Rahul Gandhi as “India’s most eligible bachelor” and joked that he was waiting for Gandhi to get married so he could receive the wedding sweets order.

“All of India is talking about him being the most eligible bachelor. I said, ‘Rahul ji, please get married soon — we’re waiting so that we can get the order for your wedding sweets too,’” Jain said.

Rahul Gandhi’s Diwali message

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi shared a post on X, writing that he enjoyed learning to make sweets at the historic shop.

“I tried my hand at making Imarti and Besan Laddus at the famous and historic Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi. The sweetness of this centuries-old prestigious shop remains the same even today — pure, traditional, and heart-touching. The true sweetness of Diwali lies not just in the platter, but also in relationships and society,” he wrote.

He ended the post by inviting people to share how they were celebrating the festival:

“Tell us all, how are you celebrating your Diwali, and how are you making it special?”
