The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared on social media, occurred near Jupiter Hospital and has triggered widespread outrage.
Dispute Escalates into Assault
According to reports, the senior citizen was walking near the hospital with his family when he objected to the driver spitting on the road.
The driver, identified as Nishant Dhar Shukla, allegedly reacted aggressively and repeatedly assaulted the elderly man.
Viral footage of the incident shows Shukla verbally abusing and attacking the victim, causing him to fall to the ground.

Attacker Seen Wielding Stone and Branches
The video further shows the accused picking up a stone and tree branches while continuing to target the elderly man.
The victim reportedly suffered an injury to his leg during the assault.
The incident has sparked anger among social media users, many of whom demanded strict action against the accused.
Attempt-to-Murder Charge Sought
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took note of the incident and sought the inclusion of an attempt-to-murder charge against the accused.
Shukla has since been booked under relevant sections pertaining to assault and attempt to murder.

Shinde Intervenes from Delhi
Despite being in New Delhi, Shinde personally intervened in the matter and spoke to Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre as calls for action intensified.
Notably, leaders from both the Shinde-led faction of the Shiv Sena and the Uddhav Thackeray-led group demanded stringent action against the accused.
