A shocking case of murder has emerged from Bengaluru, where a 27-year-old woman allegedly killed her boyfriend by luring him into a fake “proposal” setup, tying him to a chair, and setting him on fire.
Police said the accused, Prerna, and the victim, Kiran, were colleagues at a telecom store and had been in a relationship for over a year.
Recently, tensions had developed, with Prerna upset that Kiran was “ignoring” her and unwilling to marry.
Lured Home Under Pretext
On Tuesday, Prerna invited Kiran to her house in south Bengaluru’s Anjanapura when she was alone.
After a brief conversation, she blindfolded him and asked him to sit on a chair, claiming she had planned a unique, “foreign-style” proposal.
Tied up despite objections
According to police, when Kiran objected to being restrained, Prerna reassured him that it was part of the surprise.
She then proceeded to tie him to the chair while allegedly recording the act on camera.
Investigators said the woman had pre-arranged a flammable liquid. Once Kiran was fully restrained and blindfolded, she poured the liquid on him and set him on fire.
Accused watched, filmed the incident
Police said Prerna allegedly recorded the incident and watched as Kiran succumbed to the burns.
“We have taken the woman into custody. During questioning, she admitted to setting the man on fire. They were in a relationship, and she felt he was ignoring her,” Deputy Commissioner of Police DL Nagesh said.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
