General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (N.F. Railway), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, met Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Lok Bhavan on September 1 and discussed key issues related to strengthening railway connectivity and infrastructure in the state.

During the meeting, discussions focused on improving passenger convenience, facilitating freight movement, strengthening railway security infrastructure and enhancing railway services in Manipur.

The N.F. Railway General Manager also met Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the CM Secretariat. Senior officials from the State Government and N.F. Railway attended the meeting, where various issues concerning railway connectivity, infrastructure development and passenger services were reviewed.

The meeting discussed measures to ensure the smooth and regular operation of passenger train services between Jiribam and Khongsang, with an emphasis on providing reliable and convenient rail services to the people of the region.

The feasibility of establishing direct rail connectivity between Manipur and Guwahati was also discussed. Such a service, if introduced, would improve connectivity between Manipur and Assam’s major urban and commercial centre and provide greater convenience to passengers.

The officials also reviewed the need to improve road connectivity between Vangaichungpao and the National Highway, besides strengthening security infrastructure for safer and more efficient railway operations.

Freight management at Khongsang Terminal was another major issue discussed. Measures to ensure efficient handling and movement of goods were deliberated upon to strengthen the logistics network in the state. The introduction and operationalisation of RO-RO (Roll-on/Roll-off) services at the terminal was also discussed to facilitate the movement of goods and vehicles through rail-based transportation.

The current status and progress of the Jiribam–Imphal New Railway Line Project were also reviewed in detail. Emphasis was laid on expediting the ongoing works and maintaining steady progress towards completion of the strategically important railway project.

The discussions reaffirmed N.F. Railway’s commitment to strengthening railway infrastructure, improving passenger and freight services, enhancing security and contributing to the socio-economic development of Manipur through improved rail connectivity.
