Veteran Bengali actor Debraj Roy dies at 69
Kolkata/IBNS: Veteran Bengali actor Debraj Roy, who made his debut in the industry with Satyajit Ray's film Pratidwandi in 1970, died on Thursday after prolonged kidney ailment. He was 69.
Roy made his cinematic debut in Satyajit Ray’s Pratidwandi (1970) and became a household name with his stellar performance in Mrinal Sen’s Calcutta 71 (1971).
He was also well known for his work in Doordarshan.
Throughout his illustrious career, he worked with celebrated directors — Tarun Majumdar, Bibhuti Laha, Tapan Sinha— leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
His body will be brought from his residence in Salt Lake for cremation on Friday.
The actor is survived by his wife-actress Anuradha Roy.
