Tendulkar says India's batting 'reminded me of 2002 Headingley Test', Ganguly predicts a fourth century this time

In an X post, Tendulkar said the way India batted on day one of the inaugural Test against England reminded him of the 2002 Headingley Test where he himself along with Ganguly and cricket icon Rahul Dravid slammed a ton each.

Responding to it, Ganguly predicted this time there could be even one more century.

Tendulkar wrote on X, "A solid foundation laid by @klrahul and @ybj_19 enabled India to have a good day. Congratulations to Yashasvi and @ShubmanGill for their brilliant centuries. @RishabhPant17’s contribution was equally important for the team.

"India’s batting today reminded me of the Headingley Test in 2002, when Rahul, @SGanguly99, and I scored hundreds in the first innings, and we went on to win the Test. Today, Yashasvi and Shubman have done their part. Who will be the third centurion this time?"

Reacting to it, Ganguly, a former BCCI president, said, "Hi Champ .. this time it could be 4 .. on this good surface .. pant and may be karun .. the surface on day 1 in 2002 .. was a bit different then this .."

In the 2002 Headingley Test, Tendulkar was the top scorer for India with 193 while Dravid and Ganguly slammed 148 and 128 respectively.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill scored prolific tons to shoulder India’s batting push against England on the opening day of the five-match ICC World Test Championship series at Headingley in Leeds on Friday.

Being put in to bat first by the home captain Ben Stokes, the duo scored their maiden tons in England to help India to 359/3 at stumps.

At stumps, Gill and his deputy Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten at 127 and 65 respectively.
