A class nine student seriously injured after alleged assault at village arbitration meeting in Kailashahar
A class IX student has been seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital after he, along with his mother and elder brother, was allegedly brutally assaulted during a village arbitration meeting. One of the accused in the attack is reportedly a government employee. Despite a written complaint being lodged at the police station, the accused are yet to be arrested, allegedly due to their affiliation with the ruling party. Tension is currently prevailing in the concerned area. The incident took place in the Gournagar area of Kailashahar under Unakoti district.
According to reports, Nazma Begum, a permanent resident of Ward No. 3 under the Gournagar Gram Panchayat in Kailashahar, has two sons. Her younger son, Abdul Mutalib, is a Class IX student. On Tuesday night, Mutalib had a quarrel with Sakil Ali, the son of local resident Yamich Ali. Later, the two boys reportedly settled the matter among themselves.
However, Yamich Ali’s elder son, Hossen Ali, was not satisfied with the settlement and demanded an explanation from Nazma Begum about the quarrel. It was then decided that a village arbitration meeting would be held at the house of Taleb Thakur in the same locality on Wednesday afternoon.
Following the decision, Nazma Begum arrived alone at Taleb Thakur’s residence on Monday afternoon. Those present at the meeting asked her to bring her son Mutalib Ali to the gathering. Acting on their request, Nazma Begum called her son and asked him to come to the venue.
As Mutalib approached the house of Taleb Thakur, Sakil Ali along with several others allegedly started beating him mercilessly. Hearing the commotion, Nazma Begum rushed to the spot and tried to save her son. At that moment, Yamich Ali and Hossen Ali allegedly attacked Nazma Begum as well.
Later, other villagers intervened and rescued Nazma Begum and Mutalib Ali. Both were taken to Unakoti District Hospital for treatment. Mutalib Ali, who sustained serious injuries in the assault, was admitted to the hospital.
Following the incident, Nazma Begum lodged a written complaint at Kailashahar police station against three individuals—Yamich Ali, Sakil Ali, and Ahad Ulla. Among the accused, Yamich Ali is reportedly a government employee working at the Chandipur Block in Kailashahar.
According to reliable sources, the police have not yet arrested or even questioned the accused, allegedly due to their links with the ruling party.
