A gang of eight drug peddlers with huge quantities of Heroin arrested
In another successful operation, the Agartala city police on Wednesday seized huge quantities of Heroin and arrested a gang of seven drug peddlers, involved with selling contraband items in front of schools and colleges in different parts of the city.
Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of East Agartala police station Rana Chatterjee said that police in plain clothes were monitoring the activities of some drug peddlers, who were often selling drugs to youth infront of different schools and colleges in different parts of Agartala. Then, a team of police managed to arrest four drug peddlers with Heroin on February 25th last, who were caught red-handed over selling drugs to the students of school and colleges in front of their institutions.
In continuation of police operations against drug peddlers, the East Agartala police on Wednesday managed to arrest eight drug peddlers from different parts of the city, who were members of a gang involved with selling of Heroin and Brown Sugar in front marketplaces, school and colleges of the city, said Chatterjee.
He said that police recovered huge quantities of Heroin , worth Rs. 4 lakh, some cash amount, three mobile sets and one motorbike under their possessions. Arrested drug peddlers were identified as Manab Saha, Usman Miah, Sohel Chowdhury, Bapi Saha, Sourab Ghosh, Sanjoy Debbarma and Bishal Deb.
He said that a specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 has been registered and all eight arrested drug peddlers were produced before a local court with police remand appeals for interrogation.
He also hoped that soon they would be able to arrest more drug peddlers involved in selling of drug vials from students.
