AICC appointed former MLA Ashish Kumar Saha as new PCC president

In a sudden development, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed former MLA Ashish Kumar Saha as new president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) replacing MLA Birajit Sinha.

A communication issued by AICC on Saturday evening and signed by general secretary and MP,  K C Venugopal said that Congress president has appointed former MLA Ashish Kumar Saha as the president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) with immediate effect.

“The party appreciates the contribution of the outgoing PCC president MLA Birajit Sinha,” said the communication.

It may be recalled that in the recently concluded assembly elections Congress fought the elections with seat adjustment with Left Front in 14 seats out of 60 assembly constituencies. Incumbent PCC president Birajit Sinha contested the elections for his traditional baston Kailashahar seat and won the elections by defeating his nearest rival candidate of BJP.

Congress has also won two more seats including 6-Agartala and 9-Banamalipur and elected former BJP leader Sudip Roy Barman and former PCC president Gopal Chandra Roy. Newly appointed PCC president Ashish Kumar Das is the trusted lieutenant of Sudip Roy Barman. Ashish Kumar Saha was defeated in the last assembly elections from 8-Town Bardowali assembly seat by the BJP candidate and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
