Serious allegations have surfaced against the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel after reported firing in the air and an alleged assault inside a residence at Chamubasti in Asharambari area under Khowai district on Thursday evening. Two injured persons were brought to Khowai district Hospital following the incident, triggering tension in the locality.

Sources said that, BSF jawans posted at Asharambari and Company Commandant Anil Kumar allegedly arrived on a bike earlier in the afternoon and injured local resident Sushankar Deb of the Chamubasti area over some complaint. Later, Deb went to Khowai District Hospital for treatment along with some other family members.

While he was at the hospital, he reportedly received a phone call informing him that 10–15 personnel of the BSF had come to his house, fired in the air, and entered the residence.

Hearing the loud gunshots, his 60-year-old mother, Namita Deb, came out of the house with a torch. It is alleged that the torch was snatched from her and she was struck on the head by a jawan. The personnel allegedly entered the house without any female security staff present, broke two doors using a machete-like weapon, dragged his niece from the bed, and threw her onto the ground.

Sushankar Deb also alleged that his seven-month-pregnant sister-in-law was pushed violently and fell to the ground, sustaining injuries.

When he asked earlier in the day about the accusations against him, he claims he was told the officers were not willing to disclose anything.

The incident created immediate panic in the entire area. Villagers questioned whether such actions were justified, even if authorities were acting to prevent illegal cross-border activities. They demanded a fair investigation, stating that an entire family should not suffer if only one individual is accused.

Residents are now waiting to see the official response from the state administration as well as top Border Security authorities of over the incident.
