AMC and Smart City Limited take steps to repair all city roads before Durga Puja

In an urgent effort to repair all dilapidated roads and drain across Agartala city before the ensuing festivities of Durga Puja, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) in association with Agartala Smart City limited on Monday held a high-level meeting with all concerned departments of the state government along with TSECL, TNGCL for immediate repair of roads.
The high-level meeting was chaired by Mayor of AMC, Dipak Majumder in presence of CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited, DM(West Tripura) Dr Vishal Kumar, AMC Commissioner , DK Chakma, authorities of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL) and authorities of Urban development department and other concern officials.
After the meeting briefing media persons, Mayor of AMCX, Dipak Majumder said that due to continuous rain in Agartala along with other parts of the state and for construction of covered drains and other developmental works, the condition of major roads of the city are in poor conditions.
Based on the directives of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the AMC along with Smart City limited and all concerned state government departments have initiated steps for urgent repair of all roads before ensuing festivities for smooth traffic systems.
He said all necessary measures will be taken through a war-footing manner for necessary repair of all roads across the city and departments will repair roads as possible before the festival days.
Majumder added that detailed discussion was held among all officials for adoption of urgent measures to ease the traffic congestion and measure smooth movements of Puja revelers in all city roads during Durga Puja days.
He also said that all repair works would be held round the clock and hoped that people of the state and devotees would be able to witness the Pujas in the state capital in better road conditions.
While, in order to ensure smooth traffic and encroachment-free footpaths, the Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) in association with the Traffic department have continued its pre-Puja eviction drive to clear roads and footpaths from encroachment.
Big teams of AMC task forces and other law enforcing authorities including the Traffic department started their eviction drive to clear several areas of the city from encroachers, especially from the mushrooming footpath hawkers, who had occupied vast areas of city footpaths for decades.
AMC massive cleaning drives in major parts of city) areas has started as part of pre-puja cleaning and eviction drive to respite the city dwellers from congested footpath and frequent flood like situation after heavy rain falls and to prepare the city –a total clean before the ensuing festivities of Durga Puja.
AMC official said that after monitoring the ground works of the city's cleaning activities and complaints over encroachment of footpaths by unauthorized vendors, the AMC has started massive eviction drives along with cleaning of drains, markets, water bodies and residential areas. All the municipal officials have deployed on the ground to supervise the eviction and cleaning drives and to complete all works before Durga Puja.
