Assembly of Journalists meets Governor, placed welfare demands for journalists
A delegation of the state's largest journalistic organization, ‘Assembly of Journalists’ (AOJ) on Saturday met Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu in a courtesy call at Raj Bhavan.
A nine-member delegation led by senior editor and president of the Assembly of Journalists, Subal Kumar Dey apprised the governor about the various problems faced by journalists and media in Tripura. In the exchange of views of the journalists with the Governor, various demands of the journalists, various issues related to the overall improvement of the media came up.
Protracted proceedings in the murder of two working journalists in the space of two months in 2017, implementation of housing scheme for working journalists, expansion of health and general insurance opportunities for journalists as well as all media workers by relaxing the conditions, increasing the facility of accreditation card and bringing all qualified journalists of the state under it, satellite channel in the state etc.
The Governor's attention was drawn to the provision of launching news channels to provide exposure to Tripura country and the world and to increase other professional opportunities for journalists. Governor also assured to give necessary advice to the state government in this regard.
Besides, they also demanded speedy completion of the trial process of the murders of journalists Shantanu Bhowmik and Sudeep Dutta Bhowmik, attacks on 48 journalists in different parts of the state during Biplab Kumar Deb's tenure as Chief Minister, attacks on two newspaper offices from the ruling party's rally in the capital and arson.
Samrat Chowdhury, Press Secretary of AOJ said that the Governor said that he has listened to the delegation of journalists with great sincerity and taken appropriate initiatives. Leaders of the Assembly of Journalists hope that today's courtesy meeting with the Governor will be fruitful for the working journalists of the state. Today's delegation included Assembly of Journalists Vice President Sekhar Datta, General Secretary Shanit Debroy( Editor ) Dr. Biswendhu Bhattacharya ,Jayanta Debnath, Members Prateek Mahalanbish, Manish Acharjee, Prasenjit Bhattacharjee and Pranab Shil.
