Attack on Govt engineer on duty: Two FIR named women accused arrested
Finally, after eight days of brutal attack on a service engineer during his official duty, the Dharmanagar police on Wednesday managed to arrest two FIR named women and produced them before a local court for further legal proceedings.
Sources said that on December 31st last, one engineer posted at Jubarajnagar block under North Tripura district visited ward number-4 of Jubarajnagar Gram Panchayat to review ongoing renovation works of a Belly bridge. In the meantime, some local miscreants along with a few women attacked that engineer, Abhi Paul in front of Block Development Officer (BDO), Debapriya Das and injured him seriously.
Later, the injured engineer was rescued and shifted to Dharmanagar hospital. After one day of the incident, the BDO of Jubarajnagar block lodged an FIR at Dharmanagar police with m=names of all accused persons for manhandling the engineer on his duty.
On last Monday the North District Service Engineer Association staged a demonstration in front of the District Magistrate (DM) office demanding immediate arrest of all accused persons responsible for the attack on their college.
DM of North Tripura district, Debapriya Bardhan assured all agitated engineers that law of the land will take its own course and soon police will arrest all accused persons.
After intervention of DM, the Dharmanagar police have also launched manhunts to arrest four FIR named accused persons including Amir Uddin, Longtara Bibi, Habiba Begum and Subal Nath. Finally, on Wednesday morning police arrested Longtara Bibi and Habiba Begum from their houses in Jubarajnagar Gram Panchayat and forwarded them before a local court for further legal proceedings.
Police sources added that they have continued their search operation in all possible locations to arrest remaining accused persons at the earliest. The authorities of the Service Engineer in North Tripura district have also expressed their satisfaction over police action and hope soon all accused will be put behind the bars.
