Auto-rickshaw driver lynched to death by family members of a passenger in Jirania
In bizarre incident, an auto-rickshaw driver lynched to death by family members of a passenger in Sachindra Nagar colony of Jirania under West Tripura district.
Sources said that when an auto-rickshaw driver with five passengers was moving towards Sachindra Nagar colony from NIT, Agartala through narrow lanes on Sunday. At a time, when auto-rickshaw driver Gouranga Debnath (47) tried to pass a lorry, a girl student of class-twelve, who was sitting in the front of the rickshaw jumped in the road fearing a face-on collision with the lorry. But, there was no coalition and both the vehicles safely moved towards their destination.
After dropping all passengers, auto-rickshaw driver Gouranga Debnath retuned back to his house and all of sudden a group of 5 to 6 people from that girl student house stormed his house and when they did not get auto-rickshaw driver, they snatched away the rickshaw in their custody.
Hours after, when driver Gouranga Debnath rushed to the house of that girl passenger to bring back his auto-rickshaw, about five to six miscreants started thrashing severally with sticks and injured him.
After hue and cry, some local people rushed to the spot and rescued Debnath. They also shifted him to Jirania hospital in critical condition and in the after, injured driver was referred to GB Hospital, where succumbed due to his critical injuries in many parts of his body on Sunday evening.
On Monday morning after autopsy, the mortal remains of the victim auto-rickshaw driver were handed over to his relatives for last rites.
Speaking with media persons, the family persons of victim auto-rickshaw driver said that they have expressed their surprise and claimed that how can a man beaten to death disputing petty issues? They have also lodged an FIR aat Jirania police station against all assailants and demanded justice.
