An autorickshaw was stolen from in front of the Battala crematorium under the West Agartala Police Station area, raising concerns over security in the city. Even 24 hours after the incident, the vehicle remains untraced, according to its owner.
The owner had gone to the Battala crematorium to attend the last rites of a relative. Due to rain, he left his auto rickshaw outside the crematorium and went inside. After the rituals were over, he returned to find the vehicle missing from the spot.
After searching the surrounding area without success, he reportedly informed the Battala Town outpost (TOP) and later lodged a written complaint at the West Agartala police station.
The stolen auto rickshaw bears registration number TR01N2515. According to the owner, the vehicle is one of the main sources of income for his family. He had purchased it on loan and has to pay monthly installments, while the family also depends on the vehicle to meet household and medical expenses.
The owner has raised questions over the progress of the investigation, stating that no trace of the auto rickshaw has been found even after 24 hours. He has urged the police to recover the vehicle at the earliest and identify and take legal action against those involved in the theft.
The incident has also raised concerns about vehicle theft in different parts of Agartala despite police efforts to curb such crimes. The steps taken by the West Agartala police station and the progress of the investigation into the stolen auto rickshaw are now being closely watched.
