Amid heightened security measures to prevent illegal cross-border movement in the border areas, police in Tripura’s Khowai district have once again detained a Bangladeshi national. The detained individual has been identified as Mona Kumar Das (30), a resident of Rangpur district in Bangladesh.

Sources said that  at around 8 PM on Sunday, local residents noticed a young man moving suspiciously near the Dhalabil area of Khowai. His behavior and responses reportedly raised suspicion, prompting residents to detain him and question him about his identity.

When he failed to provide satisfactory answers and was suspected to be a Bangladeshi citizen, locals immediately informed the police.

After receiving the information, personnel from Khowai police station rushed to the spot and took the man into custody from the local residents. During preliminary interrogation, the detainee reportedly identified himself as Mona Kumar Das, son of Biren Chandra Das, and stated that he hails from Rangpur district in Bangladesh.

Police are now investigating how he managed to enter Indian territory without valid travel documents. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant legal provisions, and further interrogation and legal proceedings are underway, police sources said.

Following the incident, security and surveillance have been further intensified in Dhalabil and other adjoining border areas to prevent similar incidents in the future.
