Tripura Police on Monday arrested a Bangladeshi national and arms commander of the Parbatta Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) during a raid at Heritage Park in Agartala, police sources said.
The arrested person has been identified as Shyamal Kanti Chakma alias Toru, who is allegedly associated with the PCJSS led by Santu Larma.
According to sources, NCC police station personnel of Agartala apprehended Chakma while cadres of the PCJSS were allegedly holding a meeting at Heritage Park. Two of his associates, identified as Mithan Chakma and Jyotishman Chakma alias Bulbul, reportedly managed to flee from the spot.
Sources said Chakma had earlier served as the president of a vigilante group known as the “Mukhosh Bahini” in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. He allegedly joined the PCJSS in January 2026 along with around 50 sophisticated weapons.
Chakma has also been alleged to have links with Bangladesh's Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). Sources further claimed that PCJSS president Santu Larma, who also heads the CHT Regional Council, had assigned him to maintain liaison with the Bangladesh Army.
The arrested person is also alleged to have been operating alongside another PCJSS arms commander, Samaj Priyo Chakma, who was arrested from the AD Nagar area of Agartala in January 2025. At the time of his arrest, police had allegedly recovered a 9mm pistol, live cartridges, ₹2.21 lakh in Indian currency, 25,000 Bangladeshi Taka and two smartphones from his possession. He is currently facing trial in Agartala.
The arrest of Shyamal Kanti Chakma has reportedly raised concern among alleged PCJSS armed cadres operating in Tripura.
Police have not yet publicly disclosed further details regarding the case or the charges against the arrested person.
