Bangladeshi young woman filed FIR against a human trafficker
In a dramatic development of human trafficking network, a Bangladeshi woman, who was arrested from Agartala Railway station for her illegal entry on January 29 last and after six months of jailed, she filed an FIR against a human trafficker at West Agartala police station on Saturday for molestation.
Police sources said that on January 29, 2025 last, Jannati Khatun, a young woman from Khulna district in Bangladesh, was arrested by the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) from Agartala station for illegal entry , when she along two other Bangladeshi women tried to board a long distance train without any valid passport or Visa. During interrogation, the police also arrested Nilay Ahmed Joy, alias Bijoy Mondal — a Bangladeshi youth who had been residing in Chennai for many years.
Nilay had been operating under a false identity as a Hindu youth and had opened illegal spa centers in Bangalore and Chennai. According to reliable sources, under the appearance of these spa and beauty parlors, Bangladeshi young women were being brought in and forced into illegal prostitution activities.
While, after arrest, GRP produced Jannati Khatun to a local court and sent her into jail custody.
After spending two months in jail, Jannati Khatun was granted bail through the efforts of Advocates Mizanur Rahman and Arshad Miah. However, despite being granted bail, she could not secure her release as the bail bond conditions could not be fulfilled.
Surprisingly, on Thursday (June 18, 2025) , Nilay’s associate Somnath Mondal came to the central jail to release her with the help of another lawyer. But Jannati Khatun did not recognize him and informed her lawyer about the situation. Following this, the fraudster Somnath Mondal filed a false case against Jannati’s lawyer at the Bishalgarh police station. In response, Jannati Khatun filed a counter-case against Somnath Mondal.
Meanwhile, speaking with media persons in front of West Agartala Women police station, Jannati Khatun alleged that soon after her release from central jail, suspected human trafficker Somnath Mondal boarded her in an auto-rickshaw to reach Agartala. But, accused Somnath Mondal tried to molest her and kidnap her to shift her to Bangalore or Chennai for illegal activities.
She said that after a brief scuffle with him, she somehow managed to escape from clutches and informed the incident to her lawyers. On Saturday she filed a written complaint at the police station against Somnath Mondal demanding justice. She also urged the Indian authorities to take initiative to return back to her native country, Bangladesh at the earliest.
