Former BJP Tripura state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee on Tuesday addressed a press conference at the party’s state headquarters in Agartala and clarified the party’s position on several key issues, including the recent Assembly controversy involving opposition MLA Sudip Roy Barman, remarks made by CPI(M) leaders and speculation over a political understanding with the Tipra Motha Party.
Speaking about the incident in the Tripura Legislative Assembly where opposition MLA Sudip Roy Barman was removed from the House on the last day of Monsoon session on Monday, Bhattacharjee said maintaining discipline and decorum during Assembly proceedings is of utmost importance. He stressed that decisions taken by the Speaker and the rules of the Assembly should be respected while conducting legislative business.
The BJP state president also reacted to statements made by CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury and former Chief Minister Dr Manik Sarkar during recent public meetings. He alleged that certain remarks made by the Left leaders were in poor taste and politically inappropriate.
Bhattacharjee said political differences are natural in a democracy, but personal attacks and indecent remarks should not be used to damage the political environment.
Meanwhile, responding to questions regarding a possible political understanding between the BJP and Tipra Motha Party, Bhattacharjee said no discussion has taken place between the two parties on any issue so far. He indicated that the ongoing speculation regarding a possible alliance or understanding has no basis at present.
The press conference highlighted the BJP’s stand on three major issues — the recent developments in the Assembly, allegations and counter-allegations involving opposition leaders, and speculation over future political equations with Tipra Motha. Bhattacharjee also responded to several queries from journalists and reiterated the party’s position on the matters.
