In a successful operation, the Tripura police arrested a drug smuggler with a sophisticated pistol with 15 live rounds and 41 kilograms of dry Cannabis (Ganja) from Montala villager under Sidhai police station of West Tripura district on Saturday.
Giving details SDPO (Mohanpur) Ashish Dasgupta said that based on secret information a joint contingent of Special Task Force (STF), police personnel from Sidhai police station and TR jawans raided at the house of Uttam Deb at Montala village in the wee hours of Saturday and during the riad, police recovered a sophisticated pistol with 15 live rounds and 41 kgs of dry Ganja from his house.
The police team has also arrested suspected drug smuggler Uttam Deb under a specific case of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 and Arms Act.
SDPO added that accused Uttam Deb on Saturday was produced before a local court with police remand appeal for further interrogation and to get details of his drug and arms trade network.
Local village sources said that accused drug smuggler Uttam Deb is also associated with ruling BJP as a village level leader.
