A crucial meeting between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) was held at a hotel in Agartala on Sunday night, sparking considerable discussion in political circles.
The meeting reportedly finalised the seat sharing among both parties for ensuing Village Committees (VC) elections of Autonomous District Council (ADC), scheduled to be held on September 28 and focused on the current political situation in the state, several important issues, and political strategies for the days ahead.
Representing the BJP were Ministers Ratan Lal Nath, Tinku Roy and Sushanta Chowdhury, along with party’s general secretary Bipin Debbarma. The Tipra Motha delegation included MLAs Ranjit Debbarma and state minister Brishaketu Debbarma, Roniyal Debbarma and other party leaders.
Political observers consider the meeting significant, particularly amid discussions over future political equations and various key issues. According to sources, the leaders exchanged views on several matters. However, the parties have not officially disclosed the details of the discussions.
After the meeting, Ministers Ratan Lal Nath and Sushanta Chowdhury spoke to the media. In response to questions from journalists, they shared their reactions to the meeting and various aspects of the discussions and said that the candidates of both parties will submit their nominations in their respective areas on Monday (September 7th and Tuesday (September 8th), the last day of filing nomination papers.
Following the meeting, political circles are closely watching its possible impact on the state’s political landscape in the days ahead.
