Border Security Force played vital role in 1971 war against Pakistan, which resulted in birth of new country as Bangladesh. BSF worked shoulder to shoulder with Indian Army at every front and provided important input, which helped in launching attack on barbarian army of the then Pakistan. ‘Mukti Yodhas’ were not only trained but also provided military aid by BSF. BSF played vital role to strengthen and prepared them to fight against the brutality imposed by the Pak Army against the innocent Bengali people.
In 1971, BSF was in nascent stage when it played a very critical role in the creation of Bangladesh. It is a well-known fact that the BSF Battalions, normally deployed in guarding the Indo-Pakistan Border got deeply involved with Bangladesh crisis immediately after the Military crackdown of 25 March 1971. Several training centers were opened to train the volunteer Mukti Yodhas at Simna, Kathulia, Bagafa, Patharkandi, Asharambari in the State of Tripura, where a number of MuktiVahini cadres were trained before being launched in the mainland.
BSF Heroes of 1971 War were bestowed with 1 Maha Vir Chakra to Shri Wadhwa , 31 Bn BSF (Posthumous) and 11 Vir Chakras and gallantry award.
India and Bangladesh celebrates "VIJAY DIWAS" with great enthusiasm on Dec 16 of every year to mark historic Victory during Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, which led to the liberation of Bangladesh.
To mark the glorious 53rd anniversary of the Bangladesh Liberation War Victory, BSF Tripura and under command formations organized several programs to celebrate the historic day.
