Brutal attack on vegetable vendor in Kanchanpur; throat slit in alleged murder attempt
The Kanchanpur subdivision of North Tripura district witnessed a shocking incident ahead of the ADC elections, where a vegetable vendor was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon in an attempt to kill him.
The victim has been identified as Ashwini Shukla Baidya (38), is currently undergoing treatment in a critical condition.
Sources said that Ashwini, a resident of the Gaurishankar Road area under Kanchanpur subdivision, was reportedly attacked on Sunday night in the Dasda market area, while, he was returning home after closing his shop at Kamboltila when two miscreants, with their faces covered, forcibly took him to a deserted forest area from his behind.
There, the attackers tied his hands and legs and slit his throat with a sharp weapon before fleeing the scene. Despite severe bleeding, Ashwini somehow managed to come out of the jungle and reach the roadside.
He was first rushed to the Dasda Primary Health Centre. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Kanchanpur Subdivisional Hospital and later referred to Dharmanagar District Hospital for advanced treatment, where he is currently admitted.
Meanwhile, Ashwini alleged that one of the attackers sounded like Subal Das, an employee of a nearby shop. However, the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear.
The victim’s family has lodged a formal complaint regarding the incident. The incident has created widespread panic in the area, and police have launched an investigation.
