Brutal machete attack in Agartala's Shalbagan, one killed, 3 injured, two miscreants arrested

In a brutal clash among few people disputing prices of petrol, held at Shalbagan area, on the outskirts of Agartala on Sunday night, in which one person was killed and three other sustained critical injuries, police on Monday arrested two accused persons and seized two bikes, a machete, used to kill the deceased man.
Giving details of , officer-in-charge (OC) of New Capital Complex (NCC) police station, Prajit Malakar said that, a group of assailants armed with long, sharp-edged machetes attacked four young men near the Shalbagan market disputing prices of petrol, sale in that open market. The sudden and violent assault left the local residents and shopkeepers in shock. Demonstrating swift courage, bystanders and traders apprehended the attackers and tied them up before subjecting them to a public beating.
Police soon arrived at the scene and rescued both the victims and the assailants. All four injured youths were immediately shifted to GBP Hospital in critical conditions.
The victims have been identified as Papan Debnath alias Baban, Khokan Das, Mona Debnath alias Rakesh, and Sanjit Mukherjee. But, during treatment, seriously injured Rakesh Debnathnath succumbed to his injuries at GB hospital. His death has plunged the area into mourning and unrest.
Police said that based on a complaint registered by the brother of the deceased man, two miscreants involved in the attack were arrested and third accused, Khokan Das, who was admitted to GB Hospital will also be arrested after his release from the hospital.
Among the survivors, Papan's condition is reported to be critical and hospital sources said that a deep machete wound severely damaged his spinal cord. The sudden attack has triggered panic in the Shalbagan locality.
While, OC of NCC police station added that they have launched an investigation into the incident and soon all accused persons would be arrested.
