In a tragic road mishap, a 40-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a bus and a motorcycle collided face on at the Betaga Signboard area under Santirbazar police station of Sout Tripura district on Saturday afternoon.

The accident took place at around 1:25 pm on the National Highway near a college. According to preliminary information, a bus bearing registration number TR 01 B 1392 was travelling from Sabroom towards Agartala, while a motorcycle bearing registration number TR 08 A 6702 was travelling from Birchandranagar Bazar towards Muhuripur.

The two vehicles collided face on after reaching the Betaga Signboard area, following which the motorcycle rider was thrown onto the highway and sustained serious injuries.

Firefighters from Santirbazar rushed to the spot soon after the accident and rescued the injured rider. He was shifted to Santirbazar District Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

The deceased was identified as Dipankar Talukdar (40), son of Nitai Talukdar and a resident of the Muhuripur area.

Police from Santirbazar police station later reached the accident site and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the collision and police seized both the vehicles.

While, the mortal remains of the deceased youth handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.
