Central agencies ignoring wealth hike of BJP leaders in Tripura: alleges Jitendra Chaudhury
Opposition CPI(M() state secretary , Jitendra Chaudhury on Thursday alleged that amidst gross-corruption in every sector, the ruling BJP did nothing for the development of Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas of Tripura and during past eight years, the real development of BJP leaders, MLAs and Ministers has been ensured through large-scale corruption.
Addressing a mass rally of the Tripura Rajya Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP), the tribal wing of the CPI(M) in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan , Chaudhury claimed that central agencies such as the CBI, Income Tax and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which are active in other states and are trying harass opposition leaders, have turned a blind eye to take a stock of the wealth by ministers, MLAs and leaders of the ruling BJP in Tripura.
The rally was organized to mark the 23rd central conference of GMP from January 29 to 30th at Agartala Town Hall and addressing the large gathering of tribal supporters of CPI (M), the leader of opposition (LoP), Jitendra Chaudhury also claimed that several state ministers had purchased high-value flats in Delhi and many of them owned petrol pumps and built well-furnished houses in Agartala city.
He alleged that a ruling party MLA, whose family possessed a Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration card a few years ago, now becomes owner of huge properties within the last three years of becoming a minister. He claimed that central agencies have ignored the rapid accumulation of wealth by certain BJP ministers and MLAs.
Chaudhury said that people are closely watching the activities of ruling party leaders and if CBI< IT and ED turned the eyes folded, the people of Tripura witnessed everything and would hold them accountable at the appropriate time.
Responding to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s recent allegation of misuse of funds sent to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Chaudhury said the Chief Minister could constitute an inquiry commission to probe the alleged irregularities and opposition parties will welcome the decision if the state government initiates probe against gross corruption by Tipra-Motha Party leaders in ADC areas.
Chaudhury also criticized the TMP for remaining silent over the BJP-led central government’s decision to replace the MGNREGA with another Act. He further alleged that the TMP was not pressing for the passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill in Parliament, which aims to empower the tribal council, claiming that TMP chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma had compromised on these issues for his political gain.
Earlier, addressing the rally CPI (M) Politburo member Brinda Karat also strongly criticized both BJP led central and state governments for their alleged deprivation of tribal rights across the country. She alleged that the BJP government in Uttarakhand is responsible for the killing of Tripura youth Angel Chakma.
She also alleged that the BJP governments are bulldozing the basic rights of tribal population across the state.
