Child died at Jamtailbari ADC Village due to mobile addition

In a tragic incident, the life of two-and-a-half-year-old child, Sonakshi Debbarma died because of her addiction to a mobile phone at Moracherra village under Jamtailbari ADC Village of Chandipur Block, Kailashahar under Unakoti district.
Sources said that on Saturday, while her sick mother was asleep, toddler Sonakshi picked up the mobile phone lying in the room. Watching videos, she wandered outside near the roadside drain. Suddenly, the phone slipped from her hand, and while trying to pick it up, she herself fell into the drain and lost her life. Local workers spotted her lifeless body and informed others. She was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The untimely death of Sonakshi has cast a shadow of grief over the entire village. Neighbors claim that excessive addiction to mobile phones was the main cause of this accident.
Meanwhile, the child’s family lives in extreme poverty. Her father, Khichukrai Debbarma, who has four more children said they have never received any government assistance or housing. Even after the accident, no one from the administration came forward to support them, he alleged.
A moment of carelessness snatched away an innocent life. Sonakshi’s death raises a haunting question—how dangerous can the consequences be when children are given unrestricted access to mobile phones?
