Members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a protest in Agartala on Tuesday as part of a nationwide “Demand Day” programme against the implementation of the new labour codes.

The protest was organized in solidarity with workers’ movements taking place across different parts of the country, including Noida.

As part of the programme, CITU members took out a protest rally in the city and later staged a demonstration in front of the Labour Bhavan in Agartala. The protesters raised slogans demanding the protection of labour rights and the withdrawal of the new labour codes. They also burnt the copies of new labour codes.

Leaders of the organisation alleged that the labour codes would adversely affect the rights and security of workers across various sectors.

They also asserted that the movement would continue until the demands of the workers are addressed and their rights and job security are ensured.
