Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Saturday inaugurated the newly completed beautification project of the Ranjitnagar water body under Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Ward No. 14, stating that the state government is simultaneously focusing on infrastructure development and environmental conservation to improve the quality of life for citizens.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the government has taken special initiatives to strengthen connectivity in the state, including efforts to introduce the Vande Bharat Express from Agartala. He noted that Tripura is witnessing rapid progress in sectors such as connectivity, education, sports and agriculture, while the government is also undertaking reform-oriented measures alongside infrastructure development.
Dr Saha said the government is reclaiming and beautifying several water bodies across the AMC area as part of its commitment to restoring the city's traditional heritage and creating a cleaner environment. He stressed that planned implementation is essential for sustainable development and remarked that such reformative initiatives had been neglected in the past within the municipal area. Highlighting the government's socio-economic initiatives, the Chief Minister said women are being linked with self-help groups to promote self-reliance, while skill development programmes are being implemented across the state. He added that young entrepreneurs are being encouraged to establish start-up ventures based on locally available resources and claimed that around 2.5 lakh entrepreneurs have already set up businesses in Tripura.
He further said Tripura's economic progress is reflected in its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), which he described as the second highest in the Northeast. According to him, beautification of water bodies has contributed to environmental improvement and long-term water conservation. He also highlighted the completion of the multi-level parking facility at the Old Motorstand and announced that another flyover and a ring road would be constructed to ease traffic congestion in Agartala.
Speaking on the occasion, AMC Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said the beautification of the Ranjitnagar water body had fulfilled a long-standing demand of local residents. He reiterated the civic body's commitment to addressing the needs of every resident of Agartala.
Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta and AMC Central Zone Chairman Ratna Datta attended the programme as guests of honour. AMC Commissioner Saju Vaheed A. delivered the welcome address, while Ward No. 14 councillor Snigdha Das Dey proposed the vote of thanks. The beautification project was completed at a cost of Rs 1.49 crore.
