Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Saturday said that Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s principles and thoughts should be followed to work for the people.

Dr Saha said that he was a great patriot, educationist, prominent parliamentary leader, and far-sighted statesman.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said this at a program organized on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Bharat Keshari Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

Speaking at the program organized at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Town Hall in Agartala, Chief Minister Dr. Saha said, “We had many leaders who sacrificed their lives for the country, but we were not allowed to know about them. Now our Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi always thinks about the youth. Thinking about the education of students, he has started the exam pay study program. The Prime Minister says we should dream, because only if we dream can we achieve something. Today’s students are the future of our state and country.”

In the discussion, the Chief Minister said Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was a remarkable man and a respected educationist who became the Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University at the age of just 33.

“He had the distinction of being the youngest person to attain this position. He was the deserving son of Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee. He could have lived his life in comfort if he wanted, but he thought deeply about the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, ‘I have the biggest weapon—that is the youth of the country.’ They are between 18 and 35 or 40 years of age. The Prime Minister is taking the country forward. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya were legendary figures. Whenever our party has any function, we start it by paying homage to Mother India, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, because they taught us how to work for the country,” said Dr Saha.

Dr Saha said that Indian culture is very rich and strong and should be kept alive.

“Personalities like Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee have given us a lot. They have shown us the path. We will also benefit greatly if we learn about their lives. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi is presenting various important information through the Mann Ki Baat program. He connects with the youth. Responding to the Prime Minister’s call, June 21 is celebrated as International Yoga Day,” he added.

The event was attended by Bharatiya Janata Party state president Abhishek Debroy, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, BJP state vice-president Tapas Bhattacharya, Yuva Morcha state president and MLA Sushanta Deb, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, along with party leaders and workers at various levels.
