Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Friday said that jati and janajati communities should come together to build an ‘Ek Tripura, Srestha Tripura and Ek Bharat, Srestha Bharat’.

He said that the present state government is working in this direction and giving priority to the overall development of the Janajati people.

Dr Saha said this at the free yarn distribution program held under the Chief Minister's Tribal Women Weavers Development Program at the PM Shri Dashrath Dev Memorial English Medium Model High School ground in Killa, Gomati distric on Friday.

Speaking at the program, Dr Saha said, “We want the overall development of the janajati people. The BJP-led government does not want to do any kind of politics with the janajatis. We want their development in real terms. Rs 1,400 crore has been taken from the World Bank for the development of tribal-dominated areas. Externally aided projects have been undertaken to solve basic problems including electricity, roads, and schools,” he said.

During his address, the Chief Minister mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is repeatedly emphasizing the Act East Policy.

“He has named the states of the North Eastern region Ashtalakshmi. Peace has now been established in this region. Various agreements have been signed by the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. Terrorists are now joining the mainstream. As a result, those who were associated with extremism have surrendered. Peace has now been established in Tripura. Without peace, development is not possible,” he said.

The Chief Minister also said that the government wants the jati and janajati communities to work together.

“Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the present government is working for the development of the last person because there is no need for politics in development. If someone does not have a house, a house will be provided; if someone does not have water, water will be provided; gas stoves will be provided for cooking. Our government will make all the necessary arrangements,” he added.

The event was attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, MLA Rampada Jamatia, District Magistrate of Gomati district Rinku Lather, Director of Handlooms and Crafts Department Ajit Shukladas, Chairman of Aitarma, Tuton Das, and other prominent personalities as distinguished guests.
