Communal tension in Dharmanagar, SP (North) closed

After communal tension erupted in Pekucherra  area of North Tripura district after a Shiva temple and a mosque were vandalized, in a surprise development the police Headquarters on Tuesday  closed SP (North) Bhanupada Chakraborty reportedly for his failure to tackle situation in Kadamtala and Pekuarjala.

The decision was taken immediately after the communal riot but delayed the action due to Durga Puja. The incumbent SP of Dhalai district, Avinash Rai has been given the additional charge of SP of North Tripura district.

The action was taken immediately after the Pekuarjala incident , where a huge contingent of security forces deployed, prohibitory order clamped and mobile internet services were suspended in the entire North Tripura District for three days after communal tensions flared up at Pekucherra on Tuesday.

A police official said that a large contingent of security forces including Tripura State Rifles were deployed after the unrest started late on Monday night when “unknown miscreants’ damaged a Shiva temple at the mixed populated Pekucherra.

He said in retaliation, a group of people vandalised a mosque causing serious tension in the entire mixed populated areas.

Within the last one month, an incident of two communal violence erupted in North Tripura district and police headquarters in its prompt action has closed the SP(North Tripura) Bhanupada Chakraborty on Tuesday with immediate effect until further order and asked him to report to police headquarters.

The incumbent SP of Dhalai district, Avinash Rai has given the additional charge of SP of North Tripura district.
