A content creator identified as Aditya Das was arrested on charges of allegedly raping a tribal girl after luring her with the promise of gifting her expensive iPhone.

The accused, Aditya Das, is also reportedly the owner of a mobile phone shop and he was arrested by Amtali police station late on Saturday night.

Police sources said that accused had become acquainted with the tribal girl from Dhalai district through Facebook a few months ago. Gradually, the two started communicating regularly. Taking advantage of the acquaintance, Aditya allegedly proposed meeting her and promised to gift her a costly iPhone.

As per the victim’s complaint, she travelled to Agartala by train on Saturday morning to purchase medicines. Upon reaching Badharghat Railway Station, Aditya allegedly arrived there on a high-end motorcycle. Though he initially told her that he would take her elsewhere, he later allegedly took her to a three-storey hotel near the station.

The girl alleged that Aditya forcibly raped her inside the hotel room. She also claimed that when she resisted, he assaulted her physically. According to the complaint, the accused took away her mobile phone while leaving the hotel. The survivor further alleged that Aditya threatened her with dire consequences before fleeing the spot.

Following the incident, the survivor lodged a written complaint against Aditya Das at the West Agartala Women police station. Acting swiftly on the complaint, police launched an investiogation under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge (OC) Inspector Shiuli Das. Late on Saturday night, police raided the accused’s mobile shop near Laxminarayan Bari in Agartala and detained him.

Police sources said that Aditya Das is a resident of Kamalpur area. He reportedly owns two mobile phone shops in the city — one at Siddhi Ashram and another near Laxminarayan Bari. Besides being a businessman, he is also known as a social media content creator. Police further revealed that he is married and has children, and was residing in the Gangail Road area of Agartala with his family.

Sources said that after being brought to the police station, the accused allegedly tried to intimidate police officials by referring to his influence and connections. Later, he was handed over to Amtali police station, who formally arrested him at around 2 am on Saturday night.

Amtali Police registered a case against him under Sections 65(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Speaking to reporters on Sunday, OC of Amtali police station , Paritosh Das said that the accused, Aditya Das, was produced before the court on Sunday afternoon for further legal action.
